WE ALL NEED TO BE FEMINISTS!!

Our Society raised us to believe that leadership skills DNAs were engraved in boys bodies. But as we grew up things changed, schools made us to believe that we were equal, there was a monitor and monitress, head-girl and head-boy posts. But when I grew old I realized that I was living a lie, that same concept of having boys as leaders was still cherished, all my entire tertiary life, i had SRC presidents as boys and the entire cabinet dominated by boys.
                                                          BUT WHY?
Now I go into the workforce, I realized that this space is not a child's play. Men Dominate higher positions; Presidents, CEOs, Directors, chieftancy to mention a few.
                                                          MARA WHY??
Is it because women are not capable or they are not given opportunities?

Then I went to work with secondary schools, to interact with young girls, ke bone gore matasapa di a tsaya kae? I identified one of the root causes of this situation. When a girl is given a leadership role and do it well she is considered to be bossy, but when it is a boy child everyone likes him because he portrays excellent leadership skills. When a young girl does her job diligently ga twe oa phapha but when a boy does the same thing he gets praises.

Girls then turn around and becomes soft spoken and caring creatures that everyone expects them to be. You know what that means? They strive to be liked by everyone so that ga go twe ba a phapha.

Therefore that translates into; lack of confidence, hiding their strengths and abilities so that they do not hurt anyone, inability to speak for themselves and eventually accepts every bull s**t that they come across.

                      This society Though!
When a young girl get raped ga twe o ne a ka tlhoka jang, a apara di mini skirt, o tlhalefetse banna.

When a couple divorces, ga twe mosadi o paletswe ke lelwapa.

When a woman get rich, ga twe o nyetswe ke monna yo o humileng wa di business.

When a woman get high position, ga twe o robetse le bo semangmang

Guys inequality still exists, that is a fact, until we change the way we do things, women will continue to be slaves to our society. Women are forever victims and that needs to stop.

A young girl misses school because of period pains, nobody cares to assist her catch up. A woman Misses work because she is expecting, goes to doctors appointments and maternity leave, most companies pays them half salary to none.

Do we call this GENDER EQUALITY? I think this calls for GENDER EQUITY...

We end up having women who quit on their destiny before they even start. We then have women who are afraid to take big projects at work because they are planning to have babies. Why? because a woman is expected to give the baby 100% attention when the father becomes the financial sponsor.

We need to build a community that will allow girls to reach their full potential. We need to amend our policies, enforce laws and change our ways on how we raise our children.

  1. This is insightful. We need to change the cultural injustice that women and girls are subjected to. Grassroots education is therefore key in this instance.
